That Guy – Robert Smigel

I feel like Chicagoans have a little bit of a better understanding of Robert Smigel in comedy writing, but for those that don’t, Smigel is responsible for some of your favorite sketches, and you may not even know it.

Best known for his runs on SNL and Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Smigel is responsible for writing “Bill Swerski’s Superfans” (and is one of the Superfans – Carl Wollarski) as well as “Triumph the Insult Comic Dog” for Conan.

Smigel was also a writer on The Dana Carvey Show, which I mentioned in That Guy – Bob Odenkirk. He’s also made cameos in Wayne’s World 2, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, and The King of Staten Island. Prettay, prettay, prettay good.
